Introduction:  

 

A program that prepares individuals for the independent professional practice of medicine, involving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses, injuries, and other disorders of the human body. Includes instruction in the basic medical sciences, clinical medicine, examination and diagnosis, patient communications, medical ethics and law, professional standards, and rotations in specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, neurology, ophthalmology, radiology, clinical pathology, anesthesiology, community and family medicine, and psychiatry.

This department contributes to providing trainees with outstanding educational experiences in the care of infants, children and adolescents.

Pediatric Residency

 

Introduction: 

 

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children and adolescents. The Department of Pediatrics is committed to improvement and excellence in clinical medicine, education, research, community health, global health, and the development of the faculty members. One of our missions is educating medical students, pediatric residents, and subspecialty fellows. Our responsibility as faculty members is to train the next generation of physicians and scientists, who will further our understanding of the many diseases and disorders that affect children and adolescents.

 

Objectives:

 

Services of this program involve a broad range of activities in the area of the supply, maintenance, and promotion of health, including the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, and rehabilitation in that period of life.

Some Specific Competencies and Skills: Insertion of all types of catheter; blood sampling from arteries, veins, umbilical vein, and heels of infants; perform a variety of intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, and intraosseous injections; Perform urinary catheterization and Surfactants injection through tracheal tubes, perform bone marrow aspiration, lumbar puncture, suprapubic aspiration, and aspiration of pleural effusion, ascites, and articular fluid; perform CPR (Basic and Advanced Life Supports); perform urinary catheterization,  blood transfusions (Whole or partial blood) and PPD.

The Department of Pediatrics offers a wide range of fellowship programs for those who have completed their residency training in pediatrics
